TheFenix PD40R V3.0 is a compact EDC flashlight with a maximum light output of 3,000 lumens, equipped with a rotary on/off switch, USB-C fast charging port, battery level indicator and a powerful 21700 5000 mAH battery.Version 3.0 is distinguished by even better flux parameters, which now allow you to illuminate your target at a distance of up to 500 meters! An SOS mode has also been put at the user's disposal, communicating an emergency signal in Morse code.

Construction

Theflashlight's tube is made of anodized aerospace aluminum A6061-T6, which contributes to its light weight and provides resistance to mechanical damage. The transverse surface mottling prevents the flashlight from slipping from the hand and gives it a modern look.

The optical system is protected by a crown (raised head elements), which protects the glass in case of a fall or setting on an uneven surface.

The flashlight measures only 138 mm, its weight with the 21700 5000 mAh battery is less than 200 g, so it can accompany us not only on a trip, camping or hunting, but also in our daily activities.

Thanks to the use of a spring clip (detachable), we can attach and carry the flashlight on our belt, by our backpack or bag, so that it is within easy reach when needed.

In the new edition of the flashlight, the manufacturer has dispensed with the rear switch, with the result that the flashlight has gained a new function, the so-called candle mode, which is the ability to set the light vertically. This allows you to illuminate the inside of a tent, a room or any other limited area where the light can reflect evenly.

Universal lighting

The light source is a new-generation LUMINUS SST70 LED, emitting a maximum light output of 3000 lumens at a distance of up to 405 meters.
The white color of the light reduces eye fatigue, provides more natural color rendition and better visibility of details.

The flashlight uses anti-reflective glass with high light transmission and a smooth reflector, thanks to which the wide light output can effectively illuminate objects up to 405 m away. Such parameters of the optics allow not only to illuminate distant targets, but also to work effectively in confined spaces, so the Fenix PD40R V3.0 will work wonderfully as a tourist flashlight, a flashlight for hunters or tactical lighting.

Operating modes

The flashlight offers 4 steady light modes: turbo, high, medium, low, and 2 flash modes: strobe and SOS. The smaller number perfectly affects the functionality and clarity of the interface. Most of us use only 2 or 3 light modes in our daily activities, so following the voices of users, Fenix deliberately reduced their range. The element that sets the Fenix PD40R apart is the 3000 lumens turbo mode, in which the flashlight runs for up to 160 minutes! In the low 30 lumens mode, the flashlight runs for almost 4 days.

Rotary mechanical switch

The Fenix PD40R uses a mechanical rotary switch to turn on and change the light mode. The ring works smoothly, its operation is instinctive and convenient for everyday use. The mechanical switch is reliable and safe, and its operation does not interfere with the magnetic field.

Power supply

The flashlight is powered by a 21700 type cell with a capacity of as much as 5000 mAh! The cell used has nearly twice the capacity of a standard 18650 cell, which affects the performance and extended operating time.

According to the manufacturer's information, the 21700 battery allows as much as 160 minutes in turbo mode and nearly 4 days of operation in low mode. By attaching the ALF-18 adapter, the flashlight can also be powered by a standard 18650 cell.

Battery level indicator

Thanks to the function of the battery level indicator (LED in the body) and the low voltage warning, we can control the operation of the flash light and manage the remaining energy reserve. When the flashlight is turned on, the indicator informs us about the battery status for 3 seconds.

Battery level indications:

• glowing green LED: 100-85%,
• flashing green LED: 85-50%,
• glowing red LED: 50-25%,
• flashing red LED: 25-1%.

Fast charging port

TheFenix PD40R V2.0 has an integrated USB-C type charging port, allowing you to charge the cell very quickly without removing it from the flashlight. We charge the 21700's 5000 mAh battery in just 3.5 hours!

TheUSB-C port also allows you to charge the flashlight from a portable power-bank, greatly increasing the mobility and capabilities of the Fenix PD40R. The socket is protected from moisture, water and dust with a rubber plug.

Safety features

The flashlight uses several protection systems, including reverse polarity protection, low voltage warning and "smart protection" against overheating.

Thehigh IP68 protection rating makes the flashlight resistant to total immersion in water (30 minutes at a depth of 2 meters), dust and dirt, and falling.

The parameters shown were obtained under laboratory conditions. A Fenix ARB-L21 5000 mAh battery was used during testing.
